The Magazine

The Concept

We will be sending a magazine to each prospect which showcases them as the cover story. This magazine is the 'Person Of The Decade' edition of a fake publication for your industry. and it appears to be a business publication, with the front cover fully personalized to each prospect. All of the pages within the magazine are blank, with the exception of the first page which has a CTA explaining that they need to get started on solving this problem before the magazine goes to print.

Important Points To Consider

  • The prospect is the hero of the story. We are aiming to feed their ego, so the copy should all about how they are the genius (you just helped them along the way).
  • Pay attention to character limits, especially if you are using {variables}, as the variable columns will be inconsistent in their character lengths.
  • Unlike the book, there is not much copy on the magazine so it's important to be very concise. The good news is that you have the full rear cover to showcase an ad for your company.

Submitting Your Final Copy

We recommend that you write a draft on a regular Doc following the guidelines below, and then when it is 100% confirmed, please submit it on the below Typeform:

 COMPLETE TYPEFORM HERE

Please do not do draft work on the Typeform as this is the only area we will look when we are moving to the design and production stage.

Front Cover Copy Guidelines

Please pay attention to character limits in each section as the Typeform will enforce these limits as you enter the final copy.

Publication Title

This should be 1-3 words, between 10-30 characters in total.
This appears directly below the 'PERSON OF THE DECADE' text and it is the name of the publication.
Examples: "Modern Marketer", "Architecture Insider", "Founder Focus", "The GTM Journal".

Main Article Title

This should be 3-6 words, between 15-25 characters in total (before using the {COMPANY} variable).
This is the title of the article of the cover story (which does not exist). We recommend that you do use the {COMPANY} variable here as it is a prominent place to use this personalization on the front cover, but please be conscious that these {COMPANY} variables will not be consistent in their character counts, i.e. if you have a long subtitle and then a long company name, it might not fit.
When using the {COMPANY} variable, we highly recommend that you do not use it in a possessive form with an apostrophe and s after it, i.e. {COMPANY}'s, as you will run into some grammatical issues with certain company names, for example American Airlines would then show as American Airlines's.
Example: "How Stripe scaled to new heights"

Quote From The Prospect

This should be 8-15 words, between 50-80 characters in total.
This is an excerpt from the article (which does not exist) and should align to the theme of the problem that you solve.
Example: "The rise of AI prompted us to bring a human touch back into our outreach"

Synopsis

This should be 1-2 sentences, with a hard limit of 200 characters.
This should set the scene for what life was like before they met you, leading to where they are today.
Example:
Back in 2025, {FIRST NAME} {LAST NAME} set out to grow net new business at {COMPANY}. Amidst growing competition, it was their partnership with Leadable that brought this ultimate success.

Other Articles (Top Of Page)

We need 4 of these, with a hard limit of 45 characters each.
These are headlines for other fake articles which would be in the magazine. We recommend to have one which promotes your brand, and have a bit of fun with the others Grinning Face
Examples:
Mars IPOs: Investing beyond Earth
Synthetic humans joining corporate workforces
How Leadable changed Go-To-Market
Vorsea tops flying car market again
Remember, the magazine is actually blank, these are just headlines without any actual story inside.

Publish Date

As this is a Person Of The Decade magazine, we use the date December 2029 at Leadable, but you can choose any year you like.
We highly recommend going several years into the future though, as this allows you to be more creative with the ads and fake articles.
If you are sending multiple items per company, i.e. one contact is getting a book and one contact is getting a magazine, we recommend that you keep the dates similar because there will be an advert for that book on the inside cover of this magazine (so that book needs to have been published already).

Rear Cover

Full Page Ad (Action Required)

Imagine that this is a real magazine, and your company was taking a full page ad on the rear cover - that is what this space is for.
It can be any style you like. For example, at Leadable, we opt for a text based minimal advert as it allows us to tell the story of the problem that we solve (see below).
You will need to upload this file in PNG format when you are adding the copy in the Typeform.

Size & Spec
Canvas Size: 2603px (W) × 3429px (H)Resolution: 300 px/inch
Please see the below guidelines for visual reference:
  • Red Zone: Will not appear in the final print. This is the bleed area. Please ensure no text or critical design elements are placed here.
  • Orange Zone: Will be printed, but it's best to avoid placing any text here, as parts may get trimmed.
  • Green Zone: This is the safe zone. All text, logos, and key visuals should be placed within this area to avoid being cut off.

Inside Rear Cover

Full Page Ad (Action Required)

If you are sending both books and magazines and are targeting two contacts per company, we will put a full page ad for other contact's book here. For example, if we were targeting Stripe and sent Patrick Collison this magazine, but we also sent the other Co-Founder John Collison a book, we will have an ad for John's book here (see example below).
What we need from you is the copy for the quote which appears above the book and the publication name. The quote should be 2-5 words on two separate lines, max. 35 characters in total, and the publication name can be anything less than 40 characters.
Quote Example: "Masterclass in scaling."
Publication Example: "The Catalyst Observer"

Inside Front Cover

Full Page Ad (No Action Required)

If you are sending books, magazines AND movie posters and are targeting three contacts per company, we will put a full page ad for the movie here. For example, if we were targeting Stripe and sent Patrick Collison this magazine, but we also sent the other Co-Founder John Collison a book and their CRO Eileen O'Mara a framed movie poster, we will have an ad that movie poster here. This is still in production and is expected in Q3 2025.
NOTE: If we are not sending movie posters, we will default to the below one for a fake company valled Vorsea who sell flying cars - it's the future after all! Alternatively, you can also design anything you like yourself, for example this 'Letter From The Editor' style which one of our clients opted for. You just need to send us the artwork and we'll pop it in.

The 'Handwritten' Note & CTA

What To Write

The space here is a little bit larger than the book, and should be approx. 100 words with a hard limit of 625 characters. Some notes:
  • We do not use custom variables in this section, so please keep all of the copy templated.
  • We recommend using the first and second sentences to make it clear that this is a magazine from the future.
  • We recommend using the third sentence to talk about the problem you solve at a very high level (along with using social proof by mentioning clients that you work with).
  • We recommend using the fourth sentence to talk about your solution at a very high level.
  • We recommend using the final sentence as a call-to-action. Best practice is to have both an email address and a QR code, as there will be lots of recipients who do not want to scan an unknown QR code for security concerns.

If you are sending books and magazines to multiple contacts in the same company, we recommend that you alter the copy a little bit between the two items.

Example:
You're probably wondering what this is all about :)
It's a tongue-in-cheek (but also very realistic) view of what the future will look like if you decide to bring Leadable into your marketing mix.
Companies like {CLIENT 1}, {CLIENT 2} and {CLIENT 3} use Leadable because outbound on the traditional channels like email, calling and LinkedIn has become extremely difficult.
We will help you get the attention of your Tier 1 accounts by creating wow experiences for them via creative direct mail campaigns.

The QR Code

A little bit different to the QR code on the book, we do not have the option to have dynamic QR code with tracking. The reason for this is that your 'handwritten' note is printed as a batch for all magazines (on the book it is a sticker added to each).
Options
  • We can create a QR code for you and link it to a landing page of your choosing (normally your website homepage).
  • You can create a QR code and do this yourself, you will just need to share the image file of the QR code.
